NS 8989
Title:  NS 8989
Description:  One year ago on 11/10/04 someone tried to race the train (NS 5011) at this crossing but their car was hit killing all 5 people in the car. Well one year later things haven't changed because before I took this photo I saw several people running this crossing at least this time nobody was hit but one came very close and I almost got thier picture. I don't know why people think racing the train is cool.

Distant visuals
Title:  Distant visuals
Description:  This was uploaded at a large resolution on purpose. Ok this is very abnormal for NS to idle a train at this crossing so I kind of got a rare shot here. Now notice I have the whole train in this shot it was only 44 cars long. Now if you view this shot in fullview look down the tracks behind the train and notice you can almost clearly make out the storm branch road crossing which is more than a mile away, and a truck clearing it. You see the railroad tracks are very flat and go down a straight path for about a mile so you can actually see pretty far and whenever I'm railfanning this area I always take advantage of this because I can tell if there's a nothbound train comming from the lights shinning miles away. Now I know most people would call the fujifilm finepix S5200 a mediocre $275 point and shoot camera but when it performs like this and you can almost clearly make out distant objects then that's more than just a point and shoot. But if this was a $1,000 Nikon I probably would be able to tell what kind of truck that is in the background.

NS 9027 The loudest engine I've ever encountered.
Title:  NS 9027 The loudest engine I've ever encountered.
Description:  I could hera this dash-9's horn from miles away and from miles away it still sounded like it was right near me. When I took the shot the horn kinda jared me off focus a bit, so that's why it's kinda out of focus, plus the sun was working against me to.

NS 9118
Title:  NS 9118
Description:  This dash-9 runs loose alone on the Columbia Augusta line (R-line) this site is uncommon in Graniteville for a big six axle to be running like this I suspect this engine was being sent to pick up a broke down engine because I saw it again in Langley coupled up with an appearntly crippled NS 4606 but unfourtanly I failed to get a photo of it then.

The common dash-9 hides all the rare units
Title:  The common dash-9 hides all the rare units
Description:  This kinds blowed because this train had two former conrail units in it and it had to be the common dash-9 that was on point. I made a last ditch effort to get the conrail engines but failed. I do have a bad photo of them but I haven't decided if I want to load it.

NS 9179
Title:  NS 9179
Description:  So as I was shooting the street running in Augusta GA this one idiot decided he didn't have to wait for the train to clear before parking his car at ST Paul Episcopal church. So to save him some time he pulls down this narrow stretch of sixth street where people are walking and there's a train going down the middle. With the train coming there is not enough room for him to squeeze between it and parked cars so he goes up the middle. The train is coming off the levee at about 5mph. The engineer is blowing the horn like crazy because even though he's going slow there's no way he can stop from hitting them. The car stops to make the turn but the people walking were slowing him down. As I turned for this shot the car had just turned off the tracks but is still too close to the train and can't move because of pedestrians. So this means if they try to move very fast now they hit the pedestrian but if they don't they get clipped by the train. They were lucky the train was going only 5mph or somebody would have got hurt. The Car was able to move just a few seconds before the train made it there. Pretty stupid because I don't think anybody would have taken that spot while the train was there, it really could have waited.

Description:  This was bizarre seeing only two dash-9 alone I think they represented ether 191 or 155 but one of the Southbound trains really wasn't a train because I heard the other south bound later that night which I think was 191. This is strange to see on the R-line unless its Sunday.
